The company is operational in the automobile distribution, short-term car rental, and vehicle glass repair and replacement businesses. D'Ieteren was founded in the year 1805 and is active in the auto industry, helping more than 19.2 million customers worldwide in approximately 120 countries in three major fields D'Ieteren Auto gives out Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Yamaha vehicles from corner to corner in Belgium. D'Ieteren is no doubt the country's foremost & number one car dealer.

D'Ieteren with a market share of approximately 20% and more than 1 million vehicles on the road. Sales in the year 2009 were reported to cross over 2.4 Billion Euros. D'Ieteren's subordinate Belron (which is 92.7% owned) is the global leader in vehicle glass refurbishing and replacement. This company is having more than 1,900 branches and 9,400 mobile vans, trading under 15 dissimilar brands as well as Carglass, Autoglass and Safelite, offering its services to customers residing in 34 countries.

The D'Ieteren business enterprise was established in the 19th century when it was originated by Joseph-Jean D'Ieteren. The D'Ieteren business kept its tempo with the advancement of the transport business, rising from a craft business to a manufacturing and commercial operation. The company begins to produce car bodies at the commencement of the 20th century, with fabrication being exported. Later, it was shifted into the assemblage and importing of cars and trucks. After the Second World War, D'Ieteren received the limited import privileges for Studebaker (1945), Volkswagen (1948) and Porsche (1950). The car rental industry started in 1956, with the lease of Volkswagen Beetles on the Belgian market, two years later D'Ieteren attained the Avis license in Belgium.

In 1956, D'Ieteren took on the manufacturing of the Piatti scooter, but the scooter sales were declining and the reason was simple during this time the small car market was booming, so the decision of launching Piatti scooter came a few years too late. The D'Ieteren corporation imports and distributes other makes & model of the Volkswagen group: Audi (1974), SEAT (1984), Skoda (1992), Bentley (2000) and Lamborghini (2001), as well as Yamaha goods (1975). In the year 1,999 D'Ieteren purchased Belron which is a global leader in the motor vehicle glass repair and replacement business. The company is operational in Europe and Brazil & working under the brand names of Carglass and Autoglass which were available in Ireland, United Kingdom, Poland, while in Canada & United States as Belron, O'Brien in Australia and Smith & Smith in New Zealand.
