Goldman Sachs leads in global M&A market share in record year for deals

  • Goldman Sachs (GS) takes No. 1 spot for advising on mergers and acquisitions for the fifth year in a row, grabbing a 24.1% market share in a year when global M&A deals topped $5T in volume for the first time, Bloomberg reports.
  • During the year, Goldman (NYSE:GS) advised on more than $1T worth of M&A deals. It took in more than $4B in fees for the first nine months of the year, beating out JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Morgan Stanley (MS), according to the banks' filings. Bloomberg will update the fee total after banks disclose Q4 fees in later filings.
  • Rounding out the top five in M&A market share: JPMorgan (NYSE:JPM) gets a 21.2% share; Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) at 18.3%, Bank of America (BAC) at 12.0%; and Citigroup (C) stands at 10.4%.

'The M&A force multiplier will be on display in the new year, with corporate acquisitions increasing corporate financings,' Thomas Sheehan, Bank of America 's (BAC) head of global investment banking, told Bloomberg. 'It's been a really blistering year for M&A activity and equity and leverage finance, all of which had record years.'
  • Another sign that M&A deals will continue the tear - private equity firms are raising record funds. Earlier this year, Carlyle Group (NASDAQ:CG) was reportedly seeking to raise a record $27B for its flagship private equity fund.

Over the current book year the total revenu from the company based in New York City will be 58.44 billion USD (consensus estimates). This is slightly more than 2021's revenue of 56.35 billion USD.
