JP Morgan takes a stake in sports mogul Robert Kraft's analytics firm

  • JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) has acquired a stake in the sports analytics company started by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, The Wall Street Journal reports.
  • Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
  • The investment in Kraft Analytics Group, or KAGR, highlights the potential JPMorgan sees in sports ownership for its wealthiest clients.
  • Access to analytics extracted from legal sports betting, mobile ticketing, concession sales, and other data can be used to advise JPM's clients looking to buy and owners trying to make their existing teams more profitable, the WSJ said.
  • "The biggest thing we realized is everyone who buys a sports team initially, they're very focused on the field," Robert Kraft told the WSJ. "Very few prioritize the business side, and this really helps to do that."
  • Kraft apparently has kept focused on both areas, seeing his team has won six Super Bowls.
  • JPMorgan is the company's first strategic investor.
  • KAGR has more than 20 clients, including the National Football League, teams in all five major American sports leagues, and college athletic programs.

Over the current book year the total revenue from the company in New York City will be 121.06 billion USD (consensus estimates). This is slightly more than 2020's revenue of 119.54 billion USD.
