Amazon.com nears $9B deal for MGM Holdings - WSJ

Amazon .com (AMZN) is close to a deal to buy studio MGM Holdings (OTC:MGMB) for nearly $9B, adding one of Hollywood's venerable film operations into a mini-major studio asset for Amazon 's movie ambitions, The Wall Street Journal reports.

That deal could come as soon as this week, according to the report.

And it would be Amazon ' second-biggest acquisition ever, behind a $13.7B deal for Whole Foods Market.

Amazon was previously reported to be in talks to acquire the mini-major studio - holder of valuable film rights including the James Bond franchise, Rocky and The Pink Panther as well as TV hits including The Handmaid's Tale, Fargo, Shark Tank and Survivor - by The Information, and Variety put a peg on a potential $9B price even as other observers saw it worth about $5B.

For this year the company, based in Seattle revenue will be around 490.36 billion USD. This is according to the average of the analysts' estimates. This is hugely more than 2020's revenue of 386.06 billion USD.

The analysts expect for 2021 a net profit of 28.63 billion USD. For this year most of the analysts expect a profit per share of 55.74 USD. Based on this the price/earnings-ratio is a very high 57.95.

For this year analysts don't expect the company to pay a dividend. The average dividend yield of the general retailers is a relatively high 1.54 percent.

Most recent target prices around 4250 USD

The most recent recommendations for the general retailer are from KBC Securities, ABN AMRO and JP Morgan.

Based on the current number of outstanding shares Amazon 's market capitalization is 1608.59 billion USD. The Amazon stock was the past 12 months quite unstable. Since last May the stock is even 35 percent higher. This year the stock price moved between 2378 and 3554 dollar.
