Uber spins off Postmates robotic delivery unit in profitability push

  • Three months after closing its Postmates acquisition, Uber (NYSE:UBER) is spinning off the company's robotic delivery unit into a new entity called Serve Robotics.
  • Uber will co-lead a roughly $50M round for Serve as a minority investor. The delivery robots will also continue to deliver food and groceries to Uber customers for fully contactless deliveries.
  • The move comes as Uber pushes to meet its target of EBITDA profitability by the end of this year. During the last earnings report, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the entire business, including Delivery, would be profitable in 2021.

    Over the current book year the total revenue will be 16.21 billion USD (consensus estimates). This is rather significant more than 2020's revenue of 11.14 billion USD.

    The analysts expect for 2021 a net loss of 2.73 billion USD. According to most of the analysts the company will have a loss per share for this book year of 1.53 USD. Based on this the price/earnings-ratio is -36.3.

    For this year analysts don't expect the company to pay a dividend. The average dividend yield of the support companies is a poor 1.2 percent.

    Uber 's market capitalization is based on the number of outstanding shares around 95.34 billion USD. The Uber stock was the past 12 months quite unstable. Since last March the stock is even 75 percent higher. This year the stock price moved between 14 and 64 dollar.
