General Motors to Shut its Last Indian Factory

  • American auto giant General Motors , which was one of the first brands to set up a car manufacturing plant in India in 1996, has now decided to shut down its operations in the country
  • GM’s Talegoan plant near Pune will be shut down a day before Christmas. The company has been using this facility to manufacture cars for their international markets
  • The General Motors India and China's Great Wall Motors deal was announced in January this year, but amid the raging border tensions between the two Asian neighbours, the deal has hit a roadblock as India has not cleared it yet
  • Amid the border hostilities, the Centre has placed stricter rules for investments from China and other neighbouring nations. This didn’t help the case as it forced GM to shut down its operations with no deal in place with Great Wall Motors
  • With the forced shut down and the absence of no deal with Great Wall, GM will now have to fund the closure formalities, including liabilities, on its own

    Over the current book year the total revenu from the company based in Detroit will be 120,74 billion USD (consensus estimates). This is rather significant lower than 2019's revenue of 137,24 billion USD.

    The analysts expect for 2020 a net profit of 6,85 billion USD. For this year the majority of the analysts, consulted by press agency Thomson Reuters, expects a profit per share of 4,67 USD. The price-earnings-ratio equals 8,9.

    Per share the analysts expect a dividend of 38 cents per share. Thus the dividend yield equals 0,91 percent. The average dividend yield of the automobile producers equals a low 0,8 percent.

    General Motors 's market capitalization is based on the number of outstanding shares around 58,21 billion USD. The General Motors stock was the past 12 months quite volatile. Since last December the stock is 15 percent higher. This year the stock price moved between 14 and 47 dollar.
