Tesla recalling 475K cars over issues that could increase risks of a crash

  • Tesla (TSLA) is recalling ~475K Model 3 and Model S vehicles due to separate issues that potentially could cause a crash.
  • For more than 356K Model 3s, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that the rearview camera cable harness may be damaged by the opening and closing of the trunk lid, preventing proper display of the camera view.
  • The impacted cars are from 2017-2020 model years.
  • For 119K Model Ss, NHTSA says that the front trunk latch assembly may be misaligned, preventing the secondary hood latch from engaging properly. This could cause the front hood to suddenly open up, blocking a driver's view.
  • The impacted cars are from 2014-2021 model years.
  • Tesla will correct the issues for free. Owners will be notified via letter in February 2022.
