IBM acquiring DevOps consultancy BoxBoat

IBM (NYSE: IBM ) announces plans to acquire BoxBoat Technologies, a DevOps consultancy and enterprise Kubernetes certified service provider.. Financial terms weren't disclosed. The deal is expected to close this quarter.

IBM says the purchase will extend its container strategy and implementation services portfolio to advance its hybrid cloud focus and accelerate the adoption of Red Hat OpenShift, a Kubernetes-based open source hybrid cloud platform.

"Our clients require a cloud architecture that allows them to operate across a traditional IT environment, private cloud and public clouds. That's at the heart of our hybrid cloud approach," says John Granger, Senior Vice President, Hybrid Cloud Services at IBM . "No cloud modernization project can succeed without a containerization strategy, and BoxBoat is at the forefront of container services innovation."

BoxBoat will join IBM 's Hybrid Cloud Services business under the Global Business Services umbrella.

BoxBoat's client list includes Fortune 100 companies and government agencies and the company holds partnerships with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Alphabet Cloud Platform.

The BoxBoat purchase follows IBM 's recent acquisitions of cloud services firms Nordcloud and Taos, which both closed in the first quarter of 2021.

Over the current book year the total revenue will be 74.87 billion USD (consensus estimates). This is slightly more than 2021's revenue of 73.62 billion USD.

The analysts expect for 2021 a net profit of 9.73 billion USD. For this year the consensus of IBM 's result per share is a profit of 10.81 USD. So the price/earnings-ratio equals 12.95.

Analysts expect a dividend of 6.58 USD per share. IBM 's dividend yield thus equals 4.7 percent. The average dividend yield of the hardware & equipment companies is a relatively high 1.61 percent.
