Having many followers on Social media is not the final goal

A the 2021 WebSummit in Lisbon we speak with Sam Renders, DJ and founder of Fangage. Fangage was started in 2016 as a startup with help from Symbid. Today Fangage is getting a more and more dominant player in the entertainment industry, focussing on how help creators serving their audience directly instead of using social media platforms.

People should not see social media as their final target Sam warns. Sam refers to social media platforms like Hyves and Myspace who were very succesful in the past but nowadays (hardly) don't exist anymore. Nowadays having a lot of followers isn't worth so much like in the past as it's more and more in control of the algorithms.

But ofcourse people should keep on using social media as they are great discovery platforms. The best is to create an own platform where creators have direct contact with their fans and are also in control of their data.
