Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. is an international group that operates on the world market with dredging activities. The company has a fleet of over 300 units across 50 countries in five continents. Including its share in partnerships, Boskalis employs approximately 8,000 people.
Boskalis is a Dutch owned company that deals in heavy lift and dredging services which closely relates to International maritime infrastructure maintenance and construction. Also known as Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V, Boskalis was established in 1910 as a result of collaboration between Elizabeth van Noordenne and Johannes Kraaijeveld en van Noordenne. The company’s acquisition in the early 1930s by; Egbertus Dingeman Kalis, Wilhelm Bos, Kobus Kalis and Gerrit Jan Bos, led it’s to renaming to NV Baggermaatschappij Bos and Kalis. In 1970, Boskalis became a public company and got a Royal designation eight years later.
A majority of acquisitions happened in 1990 when Boskalis acquired Archirodon Group’s 40 percent in interest, also in the same year, the company got engaged in a land reclamation project in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Boskalis is presently leading with its huge dredging fleets and is also the owner of Dockwise which is the biggest shipping company for heavy lifts. In addition, it has a bigger stakes in Smit international. Bokalis was official made a public company in 2000 and is nowadays focused on two main contracts in Australia. These two contracts includes; the €50 million contract meant to broaden the harbor at Newcastle and a €300 million contract purposed to increase the depth of the shipping sections of Port Phillip in Melbourne.
