AstraZeneca informs European Union of vaccine delivery issues

  • AstraZeneca has informed the European Commission that it expects to deliver “considerably” less than agreed volumes of COVID-19 vaccines after EU approval than the company had previously expected.
  • Austria’s allotments for Q1 had been cut to 500k-600k doses from 2M previously planned.
  • Separately, a fire at the Serum Institute of India ( SII ) killed five people, but the vaccine maker said it would not affect production of the AstraZeneca coronavirus shot.
  • SII has licensed the shot developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, and was also planning to start stockpiling up to 50M doses a month of a vaccine candidate developed by Novavax from around April.
  • Recently, AstraZeneca's jab nabbed approval in Thailand and emergency use nod in Sri Lanka.
