SBF AG develops customized lighting control for rolling stock

Leipzig, 2 September 2025 –
SBF AG (ISIN: DE000A2AAE22; WKN A2AAE2, “SBF”), a listed specialist for innovative solutions in the fields of rolling stock, lighting, electromechanics, and sensor technology, has taken its own solutions for intelligent lighting control for rolling stock to a new level. Bidirectional control enables direct and individual control of the lights and provides detailed insights into their status.

“With this development, we are once again setting technological standards for modern rolling stock. We are delivering a product that is precisely tailored to the requirements of leading international train manufacturers,” explains Robert Stöcklinger, CEO of SBF AG. “Our solution increases added value for both manufacturers and passengers alike – through greater operational reliability, more precise control, and optimum comfort.”

The new bidirectional control system opens up a wide range of new possibilities. Each luminaire can now receive signals individually and send data such as brightness, temperature, switch-on time, and any malfunctions back to the central control system in real time. With the help of sensors and individual switching scenarios for each lighting unit, the system reacts to internal and external influences. This enables targeted addressing and analysis, preventive maintenance, optimized operational management, and increased energy efficiency.

The modular, flexible technology meets the growing demands of global train manufacturers and supports the next generation of connected rolling stock. The control system also works via web interfaces and browsers, enabling flexible control via mobile devices. This underscores SBF's role as a technological innovation leader in the rail transportation industry.

SBF is already using intelligent lighting control in projects such as the EC 250 “SMILE” high-speed train for Stadler in Switzerland. Previously, the control system sent signals to entire lighting systems. Further developments now offer additional potential, for example for individual control and more efficient and cost-effective maintenance.
