American Express
American Express is also known as AmEx, on March 28, 1850 American Express Company was founded by Henry Wells, William G. Fargo and John Warren Butterfield and is having its headquartered in New York, NY, United States. It is an international financial services company which offers charge & credit payment card products and travel-related services to consumers globally and whose headquarter is situated in Three World Financial Center, Manhattan, New York, United States. American Express was founded in the year 1850 and its logo is a Roman gladiator whose image is visible on company's travelers' cheques and charge cards.
American Express Company with Market Capitalization of more than US$ 65.8 Billion dominates the financial industry, its stocks are traded over New York Stock Exchange and are an integral part of Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 Components. American Express or AmEx product range includes charge and credit card products, expense management products and services, together with traveler’s cheques and other prepaid products etc. with other financial services and with customer loyalty and rewards programs. AmEx cards are reported for just about 24% of the overall amount (in Dollar) of credit card transactions in the US. The corporation sells its products and services to customers, businesses via mail, online applications, in-house and third-party sales forces, and marketing. American Express has estimated worth of around US$14.97 billion which makes it ranked at 22nd most important brand in the world by BusinessWeek and Interbrand. That’s not all Fortune has listed AmEx one of the top 20 most admired companies of the world.
American Express was started as mail business in Buffalo, New York in the year 1850 by Henry Wells (Wells & Company) and William G. Fargo (Livingston, Fargo & Company) and John Warren Butterfield (Wells, Butterfield & Company) these founders also started another company named as Wells Fargo & Co. In 1852 American Express expanded its operations to California. American Express functions and work all the way through four major segments: Card Services in U.S, International Card Services, Global Commercial Services and Global Network & Merchant Services. The Global Commercial Services sector offers management services of expenses to several companies & associations internationally via its Global Corporate Payments and Global Business Travel businesses. This service also provides a wide range of expense management solutions to businesses globally through its Corporate Card Programs and B2B Payment Solutions. Global Business Travel helps business to manage and optimize their funds and service their employees while traveling. The Global Network & Merchant services division functions on a global payments network that processes all card transactions. It also supplies point-of-sale products, multi-channel marketing plans and potential, data & services, leveraging the universal network.

The American Express Company, (Amex) is a multinational company rendering it's financial services worldwide and has his head office in New York city. The company was formed in 1850 and is among the 30 components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company has its expertise in credit cards, charge cards and traveler's cheque businesses.

Formation American Express


The company was initiated under the title of express mail in Buffalo, New York in 1850. It was formed as a result of the merger of two express companies as a joint stock company which were under the ownership of Henry Wells (Wells & Company), William G. Fargo (Livingston, Fargo & Company), and John Warren Butterfield (Wells, Butterfield & Company, the successor earlier in 1850 of Butterfield, Wasson & Company.
The company in the beginning formed its head office in Manhattan but moved in 1874 to 65 Broadway, which became a Financial District of Manhattan where it retained through two buildings. The company extended its operations to California in 1852.
