Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY) today kicked-off its second annual employee volunteer initiative, Sysco Gives Back Week, as part of the Company’s charitable giving priority to provide healthy and nutritious meals to children, families and seniors in underserved communities.
Sysco Gives Back Week supports the Company’s community partners and provides Houston-based corporate associates with opportunities to volunteer during regular work hours at several Sysco -sponsored events. As a result of last year’s high-employee engagement, the volunteer initiative has been extended to a two-week long event.
“ Sysco is proud to support our community partners and join in the fight to end hunger,” stated Catherine Kayser, Sysco ’s vice president of corporate social responsibility. “When it comes to giving back in the communities where we work and live, our goal is to focus our community donations and volunteerism toward hunger relief initiatives, and Sysco Gives Back Week helps us accomplish this.”
Associates at Sysco ’s West Houston and Cypress campuses are volunteering over the next two weeks at events for Bayou City Blessings in a Backpack, Catholic Charities Pan de Vida Food Pantry, Cy-Hope, Houston Food Bank’s main campus and mobile pantries in Katy and Spring Branch, Kids’ Meals, Meals on Wheels, Star of Hope Mission, Target Hunger and Urban Harvest.
Sysco plans to expand its employee volunteer programs during Hunger Action Month in September with additional opportunities for associates to further donate their time.
